I’d seen bad boys before, but he had it all and more. The rippling muscles covered in tatts, the piercing eyes hiding dark secrets, the silky voice that could make a girl come with just a whisper . . .
He was exactly the type of guy that would get me in trouble, but when he jumped off the stage, inked skin glistening with sweat and breathed his seductive words into my ear, I couldn’t resist the temptation.
It was supposed to be the best one-night stand of my life, but fate didn’t let it play out that way. Things happened. I got upset. I got hasty. And worst of all, I got reckless.
After that disaster, I thought it was the last I’d see of him. But what I didn’t know was that I’d started something.
Something that could shatter the very thing I had worked so hard to protect.
I should have known back then that the most seductive things in life are also the most dangerous.
At the end of the concert when girls just wanted to get the front line, fighting with their boyfriends to make it, that was the trance they were in, Riley is fixed to the ground and her gaze doesn't leave out of sight the lead singer of the band . He approaches her and tells her to meet him backstage.
Riley knows that she shouldn't go, he oozes danger from every pore and even her friend asks her to not go. When she stays alone for two seconds, she goes to meet him only to find two groupies at the door. After he tells for the three of them to stand in line to see who he would choose to spend the night, Riley gets angry at him even after it's her that he chose. As a way to get back to him, she leaves the poor guy with blue balls.
Sunday she wakes up with a message from her boss, saying she will work on tour for the band The Hitchcocks, and has about two weeks to lower their expenses otherwise they are able to finish the tour with debts.
While waiting for the person who can give her the material so she can start working, Riley sees a crowd rushing toward her, initially thinking it might be a marathon, but after seeing that no one is dressed to run and it appears that one is trying to run away from the rest of the group. When she realizes that the person leading the group is nothing less than Jax, the vocalist that two nights ago she left in a room alone waiting for more.
Until this part of the book I had already laughed a lot, Riley always carry pepper spray, so Jax nicknamed her Pepper on the first night. In the past Riley dated good guys but got burned, now she only have relationships with the famous bad boys, that way she knows what to expect from a relationship.
Jax being the bad boy is accustomed to having women fall at his feet, being in a rock band and vocalist also helps in that.
Riley and Jax are in a situation where they will have to share the luxury bus between them and the rest of the band, she wants nothing to do with him because they are now in a situation where he is technically one of her bosses and can be fired if the company she works for knows something. He just wants her to stop resisting, playing games with her and do things for a certain exchange, seems fair enough to me this last one.
To try to understand, Riley makes him visit the past, something he tries to forget at all costs, but it's complicated. Thus they became increasingly near, trying to explain his past Jax takes Riley to where it all began, which does not end well for them.
This is the first of two books, has very funny moments, has a bit of drama and romance. Jax with his way of showing that it can be a tough guy, but in reality are the things that happened in life that make it be so, he just needs to find someone who understands and who is willing to fight for him.
I finished Reckless just wanting for more, wanting to know what will happen now with Jax and Riley, what will happen with the band. And I don't mind at all, if the author decides to continued the story of the other members of The Hitchcocks.
